Cabinet software – optimzing material layouts

Cabinet Software – Laying out cutting diagram

Image of Cutlist plus Material Layout

Finding and fixing optimizer issues in cabinet software.

I received an email from a user whose optimized layout diagram didn’t exactly work out for his cabinet design.   I took this as an opportunity to cover some of what might go wrong when using the optimizer – since if you are a SketchList 3D user you might have experienced the REDBOXES in your cutlist plus optimized layout diagram report.

There are commonly 4  sources of this error.

  1. Material defined but no added to stock.
  2. Size of stock not fit the size of the board.
  3. Wrong [or no] grain direction assigned to a board.
  4. Wrong board orientation set for a board.

Please view the video to see the problem at hand and how I went about determining the source and fixing the issue.

There is more help on optimized layouts for cabinet design under your help menu of SketchList 3D.
