A board is any solid three dimensional object - just like real life. The board has three dimensions – generally speaking with length and depth and thickness. The board can also have attributes like color, grain image, or any number of effects of the milling process – like a contoured edge.
Boards can be made of any material. You can, by selecting the proper grain image, make the "board" appear as a stone counter top, a metal support, or even a brick for wall. By setting the transparency of the material you can make a sheet of glass. The key point about this most elemental building block is that it has three dimensions.
REMEMBER you must be within a container other than a project to insert a board. If you're trying to insert a board and nothing seems to be happening the chances are most likely that you are in the project level. Only assemblies can be inserted into the project. You should go into a lower level of the hierarchy to insert a board.
The other aspect of working with boards in SketchList is what is the orientation of the board. The orientation is the appearance of the board when viewed from the front. Think of a shelf, a side board, or a back panel.
There are three types of orientation of boards within SketchList 3D.
-
Horizontal - an example being a shelf in a book case.
-
Vertical - an example being a side piece and cabinet.
-
Flat - an example being the back panel of a book case.
You specify the orientation of the board within SketchList 3D by clicking on one of three icons when you create the board.
You can change the orientation at any time.
